Babies are only considered newborns up to 28 days. Therefore, with this small window, I find it best to photograph baby between 5-10 days of age. This is when baby is most sleepy, and curls up into womb like positions. Older babies may be a challenge to work with as they start to be a little more awake, stiff, discover stretching, their tummies get more gassy because of colic and baby acne kicks in by about 2 weeks of age. After day 14, it’s almost impossible to get baby into that deep sleep that came so easily in their first few days... so it’s unlikely that we’ll be able to get them into any of the more bendy newborn poses.

Dress baby lightly, please loosen your baby’s diaper and clothing, at least 30 minutes before the session. This gives those little imprint marks time to disappear.
A well fed baby is a happy baby! Please feed and burp baby right before our session to ensure a happy, sleepy (“milk drunk”) baby.
Bring a pacifier if your baby uses one, pacifiers help sooth baby if they become a little fussy after feeding.

ewborn sessions can last anywhere from 1-2 hours. It all depends on baby’s mood and willingness to sleep. Unfortunately... this isn’t something we can predict! We ask that everyone remain calm, should he/she not want to sleep, since your baby will pick up on any frustration in the room. And if sleep doesn’t happen, that’s okay! Wide-eyed newborn photos are beautiful too!

If you plan on taking pictures with your baby I’m aware that you are not feeling your best, but this a great time to pamper yourself.Keep clothes neutral and simple, and skip the busy patterns, shirts with no graphics are always preferred for pictures involving holding baby and or family portraits. Keep in mind that your hands might end up in the shot, chipped nail polish will show up, so you might want to get a manicure and or makeup done. Older Siblings are always welcome. Just be prepared to have dad or grandma take them for a walk . Bring toys and snacks to keep them occupied . At times most clients arrange for pick-up with grandparents or other family members after pictures are done. I don’t guarantee that I will be able to capture pictures with baby and siblings as sometimes younger children are uncomfortable around the new baby and don’t care to touch or be near baby and it is a time of adjustment, but as always I will try my best to capture what I can.
